Precision Laser Detailing + Micro-Perforation Is Coming to ARTIEM
Something new is arriving in the ARTIEM workshop.
We’re adding CNC laser capability to support two powerful outcomes in large-format panels (approx. 3500 × 1400mm):
Artiem Precision Laser Detailing for graphic, artistic, and architectural surface expressions
Micro-perforation for acoustic performance in public and commercial environments
This capability is relevant to architects, interior designers, builders, and private clients, spanning public interiors, commercial fitouts, private residential, and facade-style external applications where suitable.
We’ve prepared a short brochure showing sample outcomes and material responses:
Two directions — acoustic + artistic
Micro-perforation allows us to create refined acoustic surfaces that stay calm and premium up close—ideal for sectors where acoustic comfort matters (workplace, education, hospitality, civic interiors).
Precision Laser Detailing gives designers a way to translate graphic ideas into crafted surfaces—feature walls, ceiling fields, joinery moments, and one-off signature pieces.
The common thread is designer-led control: scale, placement, composition, and finish direction.
Where it’s used (applications)
Artiem Precision Laser Detailing and micro-perforation are designed for real-world architectural applications—from statement moments in private residences to large, repeatable surfaces in public-facing interiors.
Typical applications include:
Public & commercial interiors: wall and ceiling linings, lobbies, corridors, reception zones, meeting rooms, hospitality venues, education and civic spaces
Private residential: feature walls, stair voids, entry statements, joinery faces, ceiling fields, and artwork-scale panels
Designer collaborations: bespoke pattern directions developed to suit viewing distance, lighting, and overall material palette
Same design, different material = different outcome
Even with identical artwork, the final result can vary dramatically based on the material’s density, grain direction, and natural character—especially in timber.
That variation isn’t a flaw. It’s what gives laser-detailed work its premium, one-off authenticity.(If helpful: https://www.artiem.com.au/post/why-every-piece-looks-slightly-different-and-why-that-s-premium)
Large applications (feature linings & facade-style surfaces)
Artiem’s laser processing supports large-format applications (approx. 3500 × 1400mm) where you need controlled repetition, panel-to-panel alignment, and a consistent graphic language across broad surfaces.
This includes:
Interior linings: walls, ceilings, and joinery-scale surfaces
Facade-style cladding / external architectural skins: where a stable, compliant substrate and installation build-up are specified for exterior exposure
For external applications, material selection and detailing are critical. Outcomes depend on the chosen substrate, coatings/finishes, and project requirements, and may require project-specific testing and certification (e.g., weather/UV exposure, fire compliance, and fixing strategy).
Material response (what we can work across)
Laser detailing is defined by material response: the same artwork can read differently depending on density, grain direction, surface finish, and colour. That’s why we treat substrate selection as part of the design process.
We can develop and test outcomes across a range of substrates, including:
Plywood (PLY)
Natural timber veneer (NTV) (e.g., Vic Ash and other species)
MDF and engineered boards (typically interior applications)
Solid timber (species-dependent)
Metal (selected applications)
CFC / fibre cement (selected applications, including facade-style use where appropriate)
Glass (selected applications)
Textiles (selected applications)
PET panels (selected applications)
Compact laminate (selected applications)
Tiles / Stone / specialty surfaces (selected applications)
Because outcomes vary by substrate and environment, test sampling may be recommended where tight visual alignment is critical—especially for large surfaces and external exposure.
Designer-led collaboration (how it works)
You can collaborate with ARTIEM through an in-studio, remote, or hybrid design session—or provide your own artwork. We’ll guide you through:
material selection
test sampling where required
final approval before production

What’s next?
Over the coming weeks we’ll share behind-the-scenes process videos, sample releases, and A/B pattern polls as we build the library and refine the workflow.
